Cross-correlating the Microwave Sky with Galaxy Surveys

چکیده
We present results for the cross-correlation between the WMAP 1st-year cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy data and optical galaxy surveys: the APM and SDSS DR1 catalogs. Our measurement of a positive CMB-galaxy correlation on large angles (θ > 4◦) yields significant detections of the Integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect and provides a new estimate of dark-energy in the universe, ΩΛ = 0.69 − 0.86 (2σ range). In addition, the correlated signal on small angles (θ < 1◦) reveals the imprint left by hot intra-cluster gas in the CMB photons: the thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) effect.

Cross-correlating the Sloan Digital Sky Survey with the Microwave Sky
While most of the microwave background fluctuations on angular scales greater than a few arcminutes were generated at z > 800, the low redshift universe does distort the microwave background. Since the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) traces the structures in the low-redshift universe, we can gain additional insights into the physics of the low-redshift universe by cross-correlating microwave ba...
متن کاملCross-Correlating Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation Fluctuations with Redshift Surveys: Detecting the Signature of Gravitational Lensing
Density inhomogeneities along the line-of-sight distort fluctuations in the cosmic microwave background. Usually, this effect is thought of as a small second-order effect that mildly alters the statistics of the microwave background fluctuations. We show that there is a first-order effect that is potentially observable if we combine microwave background maps with large redshift surveys. We intr...
متن کاملCROSS-CORRELATION BETWEEN THE CMB LENSING POTENTIAL MEASURED BY PLANCK AND HIGH-z SUBMILLIMETER GALAXIES DETECTED BY THE HERSCHEL-ATLAS SURVEY†
We present the first measurement of the correlation between the map of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) lensing potential derived from the Planck nominal mission data and z 1.5 galaxies detected by the HerschelATLAS (H-ATLAS) survey covering about 600 deg2, i.e., about 1.4% of the sky. We reject the hypothesis that there is no correlation between CMB lensing and galaxy detection at a s 2...
متن کاملExtragalactic Foregrounds of the Cosmic Microwave Background: Prospects for the MAP Mission
While the major contribution to the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropies are the sought-after primordial fluctuations produced at the surface of last scattering, other effects produce secondary fluctuations at lower redshifts. Here, we study the extragalactic foregrounds of the CMB in the context of the upcoming MAP mission. We first survey the major extragalactic foregrounds and show...

By cross-correlating templates constructed from the 2 Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) Extended Source (XSC) catalogue with WMAP's first year data, we search for the thermal Sunyaev-Zel'dovich signature induced by hot gas in the local Universe. Assuming that galaxies trace the distribution of hot gas, we select regions on the sky with the largest projected density of galaxies. Under very conservat...
